As many of you may know, Skytrax announces airline award winners for overall best first class, best business class, best in a region and so much more. However, one of the most prestigious awards is World’s Best Airline.

Last year, Qatar took the number one spot. However, this year, the tables turned, and Singapore Airlines was named number one, a jump up from second place last year. With that said, here’s are all the ten airlines that made it to this year’s list.

Singapore Airlines

Aside from topping this year’s list, Singapore Airlines has also gone through a major overhaul in their business and first class cabins, and took the title of flying the world’s longest flight from Singapore to Newark. From high-class service and flight routes to destinations all over the world, Singapore Airlines deserves to to win Skytrax World’s Best Airline award.

Qatar Airways

Number two on the list is Qatar Airways, which won first place in 2017. The carrier has expanded its reach to more than 140 places throughout the globe in a very short amount of time. And, like Singapore Airlines, Qatar Airways has also made major improvements in their business class cabin.

All Nippon Airways (ANA)

ANA is the biggest carrier in Japan, offering flights to about 80 different international destinations and more than 110 domestic ones. Just this year, ANA announced a brand new first class and business class cabin aboard their upcoming double-decker A380, which will begin offering services to/from Honolulu and to/from Tokyo starting in 2019.

Emirates

Emirates remains in fourth place this year—the same place it was in last year. And with routes that cover 155 cities in 80 countries, the airline continues to improve its class and elegance that it has always been known for. Plus, Emirates has also recently released its upcoming business class seats and first class suites that are out of this world.

EVA Air

EVA Air, an airline that has only been flying for about 27 years, has risen from number six last year to the top five this year, beating Cathay Pacific. The airline is one of the major airlines with routes from the US to mainland China. Although it doesn’t cover as many destinations as Singapore Airlines or Emirates, for instance, EVA Air does provide exceptional service that is notable and worthy of placing in this year’s top five.

Cathay Pacific

Down from number five last year to number six this year, Cathay Pacific is Hong Kong’s flag carrier. It has been in service since 1946, when it flew its Douglas DC-3 from Sydney to Shanghai. Since then, Cathay Pacific has expanded flight routes that cover more than 200 cities across five continents.

Lufthansa

Germany’s biggest carrier, Lufthansa, secured its position in the top ten at number seven, the same position it held last year. In 2017, Lufthansa was the first among its European peers to get the 5-Star Airline Certification from Skytrax. Moreover, it just released a new business class cabin that is sleek and will make you feel like a royal.

Hainan Airlines

Hainan Airlines has placed eighth this year. It has grown tremendously as it was first a domestic airline that has now become global. Last year, Hainan Airlines was in the top ten airlines mentioned under Skytrax World’s Best Cabin Crew.

Garuda Indonesia

Garuda International came in ninth place this year, a step up from tenth place last year. It is Indonesia’s flag carrier, flying to over 83 different cities around the world. It’s a fantastic airline with five-star service, which is why Garuda Indonesia received the Skytrax World’s Best Cabin Crew Award last year.

Thai Airways

In last place in this year’s top ten World’s Best Airline is Thai Airways. It did not make it on the list last year, so this is a major improvement. In 2017, it was in the top ten list of World’s Best First Class Lounge Dining, and won the Skytrax World’s Best Airline Spa Facility Award.
