For those of you heading to South America, you have the option of booking a business class seat aboard Avianca, an airline that was number three for the World’s Best Airline by Region for South America and is one of the oldest operating airlines on Earth.

Avianca business class on the Boeing 787 is in a 1-2-1 layout in a reverse herringbone—one of the most common cabin layouts seen across various airlines. With a total of 28 seats at the front of the cabin, you can choose from the larger cabin with 20 seats or a mini-cabin with 8 seats right behind it. If you’re looking for more privacy, we recommend selecting one of the seats in rows 6 or 7.

Avianca business class is a bit plain when it comes to the colors, which are mostly different shades of grey with a few splashes of red. Nonetheless, the seat is very comfortable, and a decent option for traveling to Chile, Bolivia, Brazil, Peru, Uruguay, Paraguay, or Ecuador.

Measuring 72 inches long and 21 inches wide, Avianca business class features a side table that folds out into a tray table, a water bottle holder underneath the tray table, two shelves across from the seat (one for your feet and the other for your shoes), and a 16-inch entertainment screen that has to be pulled out in order to be used (not a favorable feature). There’s also a small storage compartment for the headphones near the side of the headrest as well as another compartment underneath the armrest for your phone, keys and wallet. The seat is equipped with other standard features such as a touch screen control for the entertainment screen, AC and USB outlets, and a multi-touch seat control to position the seat to your liking including an additional three preset buttons.

Those sitting in Avianca business class will receive a large plush pillow and a luxurious duvet to help keep you comfortable when you’re ready to relax. However, a mattress is not supplied. And to keep you refreshed, a Tumi amenity kit with L’Occitane hand cream, Chapstick lip balm, toothpaste, toothbrush, socks, eye mask, pen and eyeglass screen cleaning cloth is provided. Unfortunately, the kit isn’t as luxurious as other amenity kits like Austrian Airlines, Air France or Etihad Airways. Although the seat is a good product for business class passengers, Avianca business class does fall short in some other parts for premium passengers such as the kit and even the food.
