Thanksgiving is a time to spend with loved ones, but sometimes, it can be a time to get away while everyone else is busy crossing off gifts on their holiday list. And with the weather changing all over the world, some countries offer beautiful fall weather and while others are transitioning into summer.

If you’re one of the few that look forward to a short getaway during Thanksgiving, here are some wonderful ideas to keep you stress-free from crowds.

Belgium has some phenomenal cities that transport you back centuries as soon as you step foot in them. Although the weather is much crisper, cities throughout the country have outdoor markets where you can find anything from food and drinks to souvenirs and gifts for friends and family back home. And with castles and mansions to explore in Bouillon, chocolate tastings in Bruges, and discovering the culture-rich city of Brussels, Belgium is the perfect getaway for Thanksgiving. Plus, it’s one of the safest countries in the world.

If a cold getaway for Thanksgiving is not your cup of tea, then why not make your way to Australia for some sunshine and warm weather? With summer-like temperatures, you can forget about bundling up, and instead, spend your days at the beach or exploring the Harbor in Sydney, or going on scenic drives, exploring the thriving art scene, hipster bars, and cafes, shopping at unique stores, or eating at award-winning restaurants in Melbourne. You can also step away from the busy cities and discover more of the outback if you’re more of the adventurous type.

Australia may be somewhat of a stretch for travelers over Thanksgiving, so if you’re looking for a place a little closer, Peru can be a great go-to. You can spend your time on the Salkantay Trail that leads to Machu Picchu, set on an adventure through the Amazon, see Inca ruins on a one-day expedition to the Sacred Valley, or take a walk through the commercial hub of Cusco. This time of the year doesn’t see too many crowds and hotel prices are cheaper, allowing you to stretch your dollar even further.

It can get quite rainy in December, which is why November can be the perfect time to head over to Peru. And with summer only a month away in this southern country, the weather is another reason to consider Peru as a possible getaway for Thanksgiving.

Another country in South America that makes for a brilliant getaway for Thanksgiving is Argentina. This gorgeous place features amazing weather during this time of the year, and although some cities such as Buenos Aires experiences more rain than usual, it still makes for a fun destination. From the Iguazu Falls that connects both Brazil and Argentina, Los Glaciares National Park in the Austral Andes, to the medieval village of Campanópolis, and the Thermal Baths of Villavicencio, Argentina is another adventure of its own. Moreover, it’s one of the top countries in 2018 where you can get more for your money.

Want to take a trip out east? Egypt makes a great choice for a Thanksgiving vacation, thanks to the most ideal weather during this time of the year, in addition to prices being cheaper and cities less crowded. Since the busiest time of the year for this ancient destination doesn’t start until the latter part of December, finding hotels with great deals should be easy.

With places like the pyramids of Giza, Valley of the Kings and Karnak, to busy streets filled with traditional restaurants and shopping markets in Cairo, camel riding and sand-boarding through the desert, Egypt can make for a fun-filled adventure while everyone else is eating Turkey back home.
