Skytrax is a world-renown company specializing in research and providing quality advice to the air travel industry. Their annual world’s best awards are the most prestigious awards in the industry, sought after large and small airlines from all over the world. Skytrax is also involved in airline ratings and certification, which began in 1999, and is based on an international rating system categorizing carriers by the quality of their products and employee service both on the ground and in the air. The ratings, officially known as the “Certified Airline Star Ratings”, are accepted as a global standard, created “through many years of professional experience and Skytrax specialist knowledge of the world airline industry”.
The highest rating an airline can receive is 5 stars, but it does not require every aspect of the product or service to be 5-stars in order to get the highest score. Certain categories must be fulfilled and consistency across the carrier’s products and service onboard and on the ground is key. Out of about 5,000 airlines in the world, these are the only 10 that are certified 5-star in alphabetical order.
ANA All Nippon Airways
For the 8th consecutive year, ANA All Nippon Airways has been awarded a 5-star certification, demonstrating the arduous work, dedication and friendliness exhibited by the All Nippon Airways employees every day. The Executive Vice President of the Airline, Hideki Kunugi, stated, “ANA seeks to set the global standard for comfort, convenience and service for passengers across the globe and the decision by SKYTRAX to present us with a 5-Star rating for the eighth year in a row confirms that we are meeting our goals”. ANA strives to find new ways to better their hospitality to any and all passengers.
Asiana Airlines is a certified 5-star airline with a fantastic cabin crew that’s been nominated for the “World’s Best Cabin Crew” for several years including in 2017, 2018 and 2019. As for their onboard product, Asiana Airlines’ first class is an all-in-one workspace, bedroom and living room with a 32-inch entertainment screen, all of which is surrounded by walls on all four sides. Business class is comfortable, spacious and is a decent product for premium passengers who have a wide selection of cuisines, beverages and luxurious amenities to get them through long-haul flights.
Cathay Pacific Airways
Cathay Pacific has been nominated as one of the top 10 “Best Airlines in Asia“, “Best First Class Airline Lounge“, “Best First Class Lounge Dining“, “Best Business Class Lounge Dining” and more. Cathay Pacific First Class Lounge in Hong Kong International is one of their top lounges, and the Airline has recently upgraded amenities for premium passengers, some of which include Bramford mattress topper, Bamford amenity kit, pajamas, lighter meal options and new dinnerware.
The EVA Air staff is some of the best in the industry and their products onboard are excellent, especially on the Boeing 787. EVA Air was nominated for the “Best Business Class Seat Amenities” and was in the top 10 of “World’s Best Airlines” in 2019. Aside from business class, premium economy and economy passengers are greeted with a friendly and welcoming staff that goes beyond the aircraft, have delicious dining options onboard, and the seats are spacious and comfortable (some of the best in the industry). Those who utilize EVA Air lounges can expect high-quality service, exquisite lounge amenities and delicious buffet and a la carte Western and traditional Asian menu options.
Garuda Indonesia is also a certified 5-star airline that’s maintained this status for 4 consecutive years and won the “World’s Best Cabin Crew” award several years in a row. Hainan Airlines has an award-winning cabin crew that’s hospitable and attentive to all their passengers. The Chinese airline has an outstanding product in economy and business class and has been a certified 5-star airline for 9 consecutive years. It was also in the top 10 of the “World’s Best Airlines” and of the “World’s Best Regional Airlines” in 2019, in addition to these, Hainan Airline has been awarded “World’s Best Business Class Amenities”, “Best Airline in China”, “Best Airline Staff in China” and “Best Airline Cabin Cleanliness in China”.
Japan Airlines has been awarded the 5-star airline certification for 2 consecutive years, providing outstanding products and service to all its guests across all cabin classes both on the ground and onboard flights. In 2019, the Airline made it to the top 10 nominations of the “World’s Best First Class Airline Lounges” and “World’s Best First Class Lounge Dining”. Aside from those nominations, Japan Airlines was awarded the “2019 Best Airline in Japan” by TripAdvisor and “Best Asia Pacific Major Mainline Airline” in 2018 for on-time performance.
Lufthansa’s 5-star certification is the first for any European airline. Qatar Airways was awarded the “World’s Best Airline” as well as the “World’s Best Business Class“, “World’s Best Business Class Seat“, “Best Airline in the Middle East” and “Best Cabin Crew in the Middle East” in 2019. One of the most notable Qatar Airways upgrades is their phenomenal QSuite business class, which can turn into a mini lounge for families of 4. As for the service, Qatar employees are attentive, responsive, enthusiastic, hospitable and always willing to assist to make the entire journey a 5-star experience.
Singapore Airlines is one of the best airlines in the world and is also the most awarded airline. It has also gone through a major overhaul in their business and first class cabins and took the title of flying the world’s longest flight from Singapore to Newark. From high-class service and flight routes to destinations all over the world, Singapore Airlines deserves the 5-star certification year after year.
